About

Joanna Barnum is an illustrator and painter working in Harford County, Maryland. Her approach to watercolor embraces the fluidity and expressive potential of the medium while emphasizing careful observation of color, light, and form. Her illustration work focuses on picture books and narrative fantasy illustration for children and adults, as well as food, nature, and editorial portraits.  As a fine artist, she paints contemporary portraits and competes in juried plein air events, and teaches watercolor workshops focusing on use of media and the portrait as subject.
