New Year’s Day Paint and Demo Party

I will be doing a watercolor portrait demo at Chesapeake’s annual New Year’s Day party.  From 3:30-5 there will be open painting with models and critiques, and at 5 demos from faculty and guest artists will begin.  Later, there will be dancing and music, as well as drawings for scholarship certificates and door prizes.  This event is free if you bring a potluck dish or a bottle of wine to share, or $20 if not.

Join Joanna Barnum NWS for a one day watercolor workshop open to students of all levels. Experienced painters will have the opportunity to learn new approaches and get feedback and assistance on personally directed work, while beginners will be introduced to the fundamentals of this exciting media.  The day will include a combination of group exercises, demonstrations, skill level appropriate assignments, and independent work with personal attention.

Learn how to build layers of warm and cool washes over a preliminary drawing to create naturalistic skin tones and build the illusion of three dimensional form, creating lively and expressive portrait paintings in watercolor.
